TOM GERAGHTY , BSc , FCA
After a brief career as a teacher, Tom qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1977 at Hereward, Scott, Davies, a medium-sized firm in the City of London, before joining one of the big firms in Nottingham. He moved to Barker Maule and Co in 1984, becoming a partner in 1986. Over the next 30 years, he has established excellent and long-lasting relationships with many clients.
Tom has a special interest in farming, science and charities. He prides himself on giving a holistic and supportive service to clients. He recognises and demonstrates the importance of training and developing staff and gives priority to working as a team and taking pride in seeing junior members of staff progress.
He was enthusiastic about establishing a new practice to embody the experience he has gained within a culture of respect and commitment to clients and staff. He is delighted with the growth and success of the business so far and is always seeking new opportunities to further develop the staff and the business.

POLLY GERAGHTY , BA , CA
Polly completed a degree in Financial and Business Economics at Newcastle University, during which time she spent a year as a research assistant in the Bank of England. She completed a graduate training scheme with EY (previously Ernst & Young) in London, passing all of her exams at the first attempt, and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. She specialised in VAT and Corporation Tax.
Seeking a change, she worked as a tax manager in an international property company before deciding to move away from sitting behind a computer all day to focus on developing long-term relationships with clients. She is particularly interested in working with clients to access the benefits of cloud accounting and workplace pension schemes.

SUE LEUNG
Beginning her career in banking, Sue has many years' experience in accounting with local firms; following Tom when he started his new practice. She is in the process of qualifying as a Chartered Certified Accountant. Her empathy with and understanding of the local business community is complete.
Moving between languages, Sue can meet clients' needs in the modern business environment. As your advocate she will bring all her skills to bear in meeting your needs across the widest range of authorities.
Sue specialises in dealing with the intricate logic of complex cases concerning fines and penalties. Her record in this area is one of unbroken success.

RACHEL WALKER , MAAT , AATQB
After successfully passing her GCSE’s, Rachel was keen to go straight into accountancy rather than persuing A-Levels. This led to her enrolling at college to study for her AAT qualifications.
Making strong progress with the qualification, and gaining her AAT Bookkeeping certification along the way, Rachel was offered a position with Tom Geraghty and Associates in the summer of 2016.
Rachel has gone on to complete her AAT qualification and has decided to study towards becoming a Chartered Accountant, where she is now part-qualified.
Rachel was made office manager in late 2020.

KATIE BLOWS
After leaving school, Katie moved from Peterborough to Newark and started working for a local accountancy firm on the reception desk. After 15 years Katie decided that she would like to progress and develop skills on the accounting side.
Katie started working with Tom Geraghty & Associates in June 2018. She has recently completed her AAT Level 3 and is now well on her way to gaining her AAT Level 4 Diploma.
Katie has a NVQ in customer services and is dedicated to giving customers an excellent service.

ANDREW MAKSOUD , BA
After completing an access to higher education course following his A-levels, Andrew enrolled in the University of Liverpool to study business economics during which he developed an interest in accountancy. After graduation he worked as a credit controller in the private healthcare sector before deciding accountancy was the career path he wanted to follow.
Andrew was accepted into a graduate programme in a local accountancy firm in which he started studying for his ACA qualification to become a chartered accountant. After progressing to the second stage of the qualification Andrew took a break from accountancy to join the Family business during lockdown, working in a financial support role. Joining Tom Geraghty & Associates in April 2021 Andrew will continue to pursue his goal of becoming a chartered accountant.
Andrew has experience in a wide variety of I.T. systems and cloud-based accounting software.

ALEX ROSE
After leaving school at sixteen, Alex decided to attend Newark College to study AAT with Rachel. After a brief hiatus to explore other routes, Alex ultimately decided to return to what she enjoys most - accountancy!
Alex started working with us April 2023 and is currently studying AAT. She is well on her way to completing her Level 3 qualification.
Outside of work Alex enjoys reading and online gaming.

LIZ GOOR , BSc
After completing a surveying degree, Liz focused her career in property sales and administration on the residential side and subsequently worked in a busy office as a secretary for three Directors.
Liz started at Tom Geraghty & Associates in August 2022 taking on a new role as Office Administrator. Liz brings with her an array of customer experience and administration skills.
Fun Fact: Liz used to swim competitively as part of a swimming club and is a qualified lifeguard!
